Join us for Jusoor’s Fifth Annual Conference and Gala in Toronto

Dear Friends,

Jusoor would like to cordially invite you to our fifth annual global conference, #RefugeesWelcome: Canada’s Response to the Syrian Crisis and the Road Ahead, which will be held in Toronto on October 14th. Since November 2015, Canada has resettled 40,000 Syrian refugees. Jusoor’s fifth annual conference honors these efforts and puts a spotlight on the challenges that lay ahead.

Through our annual conferences, we hope to create a space for the cultivation of ideas — to engage corporations, non-profit organizations, community organizers, and established Syrian communities in North America and around the world to learn from challenges, scale successes, and mobilize support.

This year’s conference panels will focus on the opportunities of social integration through higher education as well as the challenges of economic integration. Speakers will include Dr. Nadia Abu-Zahra, an Associate Professor of International Development and Global Studies and a member of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at the University of Ottawa; Orlando Ferro, the executive director of Quinte Immigration Services; and, Dr. Gavin Brockett, an Associate Dean of Student Affairs & Learning and Associate Professor of Middle East and Islamic History at Wilfrid Laurier University, among others.

We will also hold an interactive workshop that will highlight cases of successful social integration and where we will discuss ongoing projects and initiatives from around the world. Finally, we will end the day with a Disruptor Lab, where qualifying startups will pitch their proposals on topics related to Education and Learning, Career and Economic Development, and Policy Disruption.

Jusoor’s Fundraising Gala and Art Auction

This year’s fifth annual charity dinner will be an evening dedicated to Syrian youth, their accomplishments and their potential. The evening will include an art auction featuring prominent and emerging Syrian and Middle Eastern artists, as well as a music performance by the Canadian Arabic Orchestra, a non profit organization committed to reviving fine Arabic music and promoting multi-cultural understanding in Canada.

Tech Entrepreneur, Exec and Philanthropist Jim Estill to Deliver Keynote Address

Since 2015, Jim Estill, the CEO of Dandy Products, has helped resettle 58 refugee families– more than 200 people– in the Canadian city of Guelph. A life-long entrepreneur, Estill invested $1.5 million Canadian of his own money into this massive resettlement effort, helping many of the families access jobs and opportunities that would normally be difficult to attain. This June, Estill received the Order of Ontario, the provinces highest honor. And we will be honoring him with Jusoor’s Friend of the Syrian People Award.

Our Mission is to Educate and Empower Syria’s Youth for a Brighter Tomorrow…

Together, we have changed the lives of nearly 5,000 Syrians over the past six years, creating 490 university scholarships, providing a basic education to 3,500 Syrian children in our primary education program in Lebanon, mentoring over 600 students in their university quests, and engaging a vast array of Syrian entrepreneurs.

This is the power of the global philanthropic community. The generosity and determination is humbling and deeply inspiring. If you cannot join us in Toronto, please consider giving now or sponsoring a spot or table for Syrian students. If you are interested in sponsoring a Syrian student’s attendance, please email Leen Al Zaibak at
