Jusoor Summer Program 2017: Happiness in Sports

Francisca Nunes, Portugal

I spent four weeks in Beirut working with the Jusoor organisation. It is really difficult to describe these four weeks in word. It was, without a doubt, a life changing experience and a lesson for life that I will never forget. During these weeks I got to know so many people, so many stories, such a different reality, such a different culture. In and outside of Jusoor I was inspired by amazing examples that taught me what it is really important in life and that despite the humanitarian caos and value’ crisis that our world is crossing, there are still people who are not blind by power and money, and who still care about the others, and are still able to give their time to help the others. And I am not only talking about the volunteers, but also about the teachers, everyone from Jusoor and even the kids.

I was placed in Jeb Jannine school, the biggest one of Jusoor, located in Vale Beckaa. Here I was in charge of the sports activities, together with another volunteer and four teachers. I think this was the better activity that I could be in! Because, in my opinion, sports and open air activities are one of the best ways to make the kids happier. And I was really lucky to have the chance to be everyday with all the kids, to see everyday those open smiles and hear their laughter, while they are just playing their role of being a kid and where they can forget the problems that they have faced and maybe still face outside the school ground.

Francisca volunteered at Jusoor’s educational centers in Lebanon during July and August 2017 as part of the summer volunteer program. You can read more posts by our volunteers here.
