100 Syrian Women, 10,000 Syrian Lives Scholarship Recipients

Dear Jusoor friends and family,

We are delighted to share with you an update about a special program we started last year, entitled “100 Syrian Women, 10,000 Syrian Lives.”

Jusoor and the Institute of International Education (IIE) launched this program to support Syrian women to resume their higher education despite the conflict in Syria. The needs-based full scholarships enable women to study at U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities. The program is implemented in partnership with Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and EducationUSA, and with support from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Google, the American Syrian Arab Cultural Association (ASACA), and ETS.

The students are going to 14 universities, including Harvard University, New York University, Brown University, and other outstanding academic institutions as detailed below.

Scholarship Recipients – 2016 Selection Cycle

Fifteen women have already arrived or are on their way to universities in the U.S. and Canada, and 3 are scheduled to arrive next semester. Most applications for this program came from within Syria and its neighboring countries, which was reflected in the selection results. The map below indicates where scholarship recipients were born, which portrays the great diversity of the group.
